FAQs
What You Need To Know
What types of support can disability services include?
Disability supports can include personal care, meal preparation, household tasks, transport to appointments, help using mobility aids, social and community participation, skill development, therapeutic supports and assistance with employment pathways. Services are usually tailored to individual goals, routines and preferences, and can change as circumstances or needs change.
Can support be provided at home and in the community?
Support can often be delivered in different settings, depending on individual needs and goals. This may include assistance at home, in shared living arrangements, during community outings, at appointments, while shopping, or when attending social, recreational, educational or volunteer activities that encourage independence, confidence and participation in everyday life.
How can a disability support worker help develop social skills?
A disability support worker can help build social skills by encouraging communication, practising conversation, supporting participation in community activities and helping develop confidence in new situations. They may assist with understanding boundaries, routines and social cues, while creating opportunities to form friendships, maintain connections and reduce isolation over time.
